Coastal Corridor Bus Study
The Coastal Corridor Bus Study will develop recommendations to improve and expand public bus service along Connecticut’s Coastal Corridor, which is exemplified by an array of operators, routes, service plans and governing bodies sharing a geographic corridor that continues to become increasingly unified economically. Driven by the strong success of the Coastal Link collaboration between Norwalk Transit District, Greater Bridgeport Transit and Milford Transit District that has consolidated bus service along US Route 1 between Norwalk and Milford, this study seeks to determine opportunities to create additional operating efficiencies and partnerships that will improve service to current and future bus passengers and enhance intermodal connectivity.
Overall goals of the Study include:
- Creation of a plan to more efficiently deliver bus service across the Coastal Corridor, including short- medium- and long-term recommendations regarding the optimal level of bus service;
- Maximizing ridership on Coastal Corridor buses, under various economic scenarios;
- Optimizing connectivity with all local and interregional transit connections, including bus and rail.
Study Area:
The primary project study area encompasses the coastal corridor of Connecticut stretching from the New York State border in the west to Madison, CT in the east, and includes sections of the Cities of Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport and New Haven.
