The purpose of the study is to identify key elements of the freight transportation system in South Western Connecticut, describe the movement of goods through the Region, and to recognize the safe, efficient, and economical movement of goods as an integral component of the Region's multi-modal transportation system.
Primary project objectives are as follows:
- To document freight transportation policies, plans, and initiatives at the federal, state, regional, and local level;
- To identify key freight infrastructure, generators, and consumers in the Region;
- To analyze freight-related data including truck traffic, commercial vehicle accident locations, and freight flows into and out of the region by commodity and mode;
- To educate federal, state, regional, and local policy-makers, as well as the general public, about the benefits of considering freight in transportation planning and transportation improvement projects.
